Appetite is more than just a test. Yes, Daniel, Adam and Eve, even Jesus went through an appetite test. What they choose to eat had heavy ramifications. It is the same for us today; maybe even more so.

While there are verses in the Bible that instruct us on what to eat, if you are like me, you have not always, and at times, rarely passed the test of appetite.

I want to share some reasons why it is important to do so.

I hope that instead of feeling guilty you are convicted to go to God for power to pass this VERY important test.

“Some are not impressed with the necessity of eating and drinking to the glory of God. The indulgence of appetite affects them in all the relations of life. It is seen in the family, in the church, in the prayer meeting, and in the conduct of their children. It is the curse of their lives. It prevents them from understanding the truths for these last days.” Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, 151.1

“Many are made sick by the indulgence of their appetite. They eat what suits their perverted taste, thus weakening the digestive organs, and injuring their power to assimilate the food that is to sustain life…. Thus the delicate machinery is worn out by the suicidal practices of those who ought to know better. Sin indeed lies at the door. The door is the mouth.” Unpublished Testimonies, August 25, 1897

“As our first parents lost Eden through the indulgence of appetite, our only hope of regaining Eden is through the firm denial of appetite and passion…. The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point, then they would have had the moral power to gain the victory over every other temptation of Satan. But those who are slaves to appetite will fail in perfecting Christian character…. As we near the close of time, Satan’s temptation to indulge appetite will be more powerful and more difficult to overcome.” Testimonies for the Church Vol. 3, 491

“Our habits of eating and drinking show whether we are of the world or among the number that the Lord by his mighty cleaver of truth has separated from the world.” Unpublished Testimonies, August 25, 1897

“Christ began this work of redemption by reforming the physical habits of man” Testimonies for the Church Vol. 3, 486

“Satan sees that he cannot have such a controlling power over us as he could if appetite were indulged.” Testimonies for the Church Vol. 3, 569

It is Satan’s plan that you lose the new earth just like our parents lost Eden. Jesus overcame so that we can overcome. It is He who gives us the power.

The funny thing is, when I teach my clients how to eat well, they see it as a blessing and a tool for healing. This is exactly what food is meant to be. I pray that you do not believe the same lies told to Eve, that God gives us some special power to eat without hurt, that which He has instructed us not to eat.
