When Adam was created, he was given dominion over all the earth and everything in it (Genesis 1:26-28). He was, therefore, the king of the world and the prince of the power of the air, ruling according to God’s perfect laws. However, when Adam yielded to Satan, he relinquished his authority, passing the dominion, which was entrusted to him by God, to Satan. As a result, Satan became “the god of this world” and “the prince of the power of the air,” the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience (Ephesians 2:2; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Luke 4:6).
Satan has corrupted every law of God, leading to discord, disease, pain, earthquakes, and all other disturbances in nature. The earth groans in longing for the return and reign of its rightful Lord (Romans 8:22).
