Life and Immortality

Question:

Please explain 2 Timothy 1:10.

Answer:

Jesus Christ is the only One through whom we can receive life and immortality, because life is found in Him. As Scripture says, “For as the Father hath life in Himself; so hath He given to the Son to have life in Himself” (John 5:26).

Christ abolished death by first conquering it in Himself as humanity’s representative. Immortality is God’s seal upon an incorruptible character—a character in which righteousness has been fully established. Of everyone who has lived in the flesh, Jesus alone, through “the power of an endless life,” developed a character untouched by corruption.

Although He died for humanity, the grave could not hold the perfectly righteous Son of God (Acts 2:24). Christ now gives His righteousness and life to everyone who accepts Him. In this way, He abolishes death in every faithful soul. He has already conquered it on behalf of all who are willing to receive life in the way He provides.

These blessed tidings—offering life to a dying world—are the Gospel: “the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth” (Romans 1:16).
