Question:
A husband and wife are legally separated by divorce, though not from Scriptural cause. The husband seeks reconciliation with the wife but is unsuccessful. She marries another. Afterward, he marries, and his wife bears him children. Later he is troubled about whether his current marriage is proper and asks what course to pursue.
Answer:
There are many such cases. What shall the husband do? —There is, to our mind, only one thing for him to do, and that is to live a faithful, godly life with his present wife and the mother of his children. The legal divorce and the action of the first wife in marrying another, therefore, committing adultery, left him free to marry as a Christian; let him so abide. (See Matthew 5:31-32; 19:3-9).
