Cain’s Mark and Wife

Question:

Could you please explain Genesis 4:16-17 for me? Also, who was Cain’s wife?

Answer:

Cain deserved to die, but the Lord kept the punishment for Himself. So, God “set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him” (verse 15); or as the ARV version puts it “appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should smite him.” Consequently, Cain became a wanderer, since “the land of Nod” means “the land of wandering.”

The second part of your question we answered in the post “CAIN’S WIFE.” His wife was his own sister, one of Adam’s daughters. It’s also possible that many years passed between verses 16 and 17.
