Question:
Can you provide Scripture evidence regarding Jesus’ life between the age of twelve and the beginning of His preaching? How did He spend this time?
Answer:
There is very little mentioned in the Bible about this period in the life of Christ. Since divine inspiration has left this time unexamined, we don’t have much information. However, it is clear that He spent this time at home, helping His father in the carpenter’s shop. The Scripture states, “He went down with them [His parents], and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them” (Luke 2:51). He obeyed His parents in all matters and remained at home until His heavenly Father indicated that it was time for Him to begin His ministry, which He started at the age of thirty, in accordance with the law. During this time, He was likely studying and familiarizing Himself with the Scriptures as He prepared for His work.
