Question:
(1) What will happen to all of Earth’s billions of ignorant and wicked people? (2) Why did God create the “narrow way” (the difficult path) so obscure that few find it, and among those who do, only a small proportion actually reach “the end of the race” to win the prize?
Answer:
- Those who are “willingly ignorant,” content with their own understanding, will face the consequences of their choices (see Proverbs 1:24-33). Those who accept even the faintest ray of light and follow it wholeheartedly will partake in “the inheritance of the saints in light” (Colossians 1:12). God provides enough light to guide every person toward salvation, as stated in John 1:9, which says He “lighteth every man that cometh into the world.” It is not the quantity of light that saves, but rather how a person uses or responds to that light.
- God has not made the “narrow way” obscure for those who genuinely seek to know Him. There is a reliable test: “If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine” (John 7:17). “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant” (Psalm 25:14). Furthermore, “The meek will He guide in judgment, and the meek will He teach His way” (Psalm 25:9). However, man cannot walk this path in his own strength, and many, in their pride, reject God’s power. If they would only choose to do so, failure would not exist, as “there is nothing too hard” for God (Jeremiah 32:17). Ultimately, everything depends on the choice, submission, and trust of the sinner. For the true follower of Christ, the narrow way is a truly delightful path.
