Question:
In Romans 11:17, who are the branches broken off? Are we the wild olive tree that is grafted in?
Answer:
The branches broken off are the tribes of unbelieving Israel. Compare Jeremiah 11:16; Romans 11:14–21. Unbelieving Gentiles are the wild olive branches, and such were we (Ephesians 2:12; Titus 3:3), but believing in Jesus Christ, we become the true Israel, grafted into the True Vine (Romans 11:20, 22; Ephesians 2:19, 20; Titus 3:4, 5; Ephesians 3:6).
