Wine of Her Fornication

Question:

Does the wine of Babylon’s fornication (Rev. 18:3) refer to the misleading doctrines she teaches, such as beliefs about the conscious state of the dead and the practices of sprinkling and pouring for baptism? All who accept these doctrines have become spiritually intoxicated.

Answer:

Undoubtedly, these elements contribute to the cup that Babylon offers to the nations, but there is more to it than that. It represents the wine of her fornication. Fornication refers to unlawful unions; specifically, spiritual fornication is the union of church and state. This harmful doctrine has blinded, confused, and numbed the nations of the world. Additionally, every doctrine that originates from the world rather than from God has aided in this seduction and intoxication.
